The University has hired the Boston-based law firm Rose, Chinitz and Rose to handle the $3 million lawsuit filed in January by J. Larry Brown, the former director of a Brandeis research center, against both the provost and the University.
Brown, who served for about four years as the director of the Center on Hunger and Poverty and the Institute on Assets and Social Policy in the Heller School of Social Management and Policy, is alleging that Provost Marty Krauss violated the faculty handbook when she fired him a year ago. He also claims that the University tried to prevent him from accessing his research funds following his termination.
Krauss has denied any wrongdoing, saying in January that the University, not Brown, owns the Institute and the funds. She declined to comment further on the case Monday evening, only saying "It's probably not going to be resolved for quite a while."
Judith Sizer, the University's General Counsel, confirmed that the firm was representing Brandeis.
