Since last week, three more candidates have signed up to run for Student Union President.

Elections sign-ups closed Monday night. Polls will open next Tuesday for the executive positions of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. Elections for Union representatives and Finance Board members will also begin that day. Polls close next Thursday at 11:59 p.m.

Alison Schwartzbaum '08, the current president, has decided not to run for another term.

"By the end of my term, I'll have accomplished everything that I set out to do," she said. "And I think it's time for me to experience the rest of Brandeis life, to engage in the community in other ways."

Shreeya Sinha '09, one of the present senators at large, declared her candidacy.

"I am running for president because I wasn't completely satisfied with the Union last semester," Sinha said. "I want a Union that is dedicated to the students, and a Union that listens."

Sinha said her two years in the Senate give her an advantage over her opponent.

Iris Uzdil '09, a student from Turkey, is also running for president.

"I am an international student, and I want to integrate the international community more with the American community," she said.

Uzdil said she would like to make Brandeis more social and enhance school spirit and unity.

Jonathan D'Oleo '08, another candidate, said as president, he would work to make students more aware of the Union's activities.

D'Oleo added that he would rearrange the Union's priorities: "The past two administrations have focused on ameliorating social life, and while that's important, I believe there are other priorities that must be addressed, such as enhanced career service counseling and a more student driven curriculum."
