140 apply to be first-year advisor

Dean of Academic Services Kim Godsoe explained a number of her department's new initiatives, including revamping the academic and faculty advising systems. The department is in the process of hiring a full-time first-year advisor, and she said 140 people have applied for the position.

The Radical Student Alliance requested permission to change its name to Students for a Democratic Society, in order to avoid alienating potential members due to the word "radical," a member said.

Shreeya Sinha '09, senator at large, reported on the process of dechartering or derecognizing clubs that had not filled out their club renewal forms. She said many of the most active clubs on campus had now filled out the necessary form, yet 43 clubs have still not responded.

On behalf of Project Brandeis University Spirit, Senator for the Class of 2010 Jenna Brofsky and Senator for Castle Quad Eric Alterman '09 requested $120 for the creation of "Deisopoly," a Brandeis-themed monopoly game. The motion was tabled.

The four senators representing sophomore-designated housing requested $200 from the Union for the Sophomore Royal Ball, to supplement the $400 they were given by Residence Life. The motion was tabled.

Treasurer Choon Woo Ha '08 announced the calendar for Financial Board meetings and marathon for the next school year. Meetings will start earlier in the year to ensure F-board members won't have to make decisions during their finals period.
