An Office of Global?Affairs has been created in an effort to integrate different departments' international programs and help make Brandeis a more global institution.
Daniel Terris, the director of the International Center for Ethics, Justice, and Public Life, will lead the office, which will open July 1.
Plans for the office began last year said Provost Marty Krauss, who selected Terris to head the OGA.
"It's past due for us to make it much more clear to ourselves and to the public that Brandeis does have a global focus," Krauss said.
Terris said he will work with students who are studying abroad, as well as faculty and students doing international research projects.
Such partnerships include working with the departments of International Global Studies and Peace, Conflict and co-existence, the International Business School and the International Development program, Terris said.
Brandeis is currently partnered with Al Quds University, an Arab university in East Jerusalem. Terris said that the OGA will also help Brandeis establish other overseas partnerships.
"If you look at different regions, such as East Asia, Africa or Latin America, there are already a lot of Brandeis connections," Terris said.
"[A few] years from now, there will be a more coherent set of offerings and you would have access to all different academic enterprises, alumni and studying opportunities."
Over the summer Terris will develop outlines of his strategic plan and hire another staff member, Krauss said.
"We're starting out with a very modest budget," said Krauss. "As the impact of this office becomes more felt, we'll hopefully be able to attract more resources," she said.
Terris will also remain director of the International Center for Ethics, Justice, and Public Life.
Terris emphasized that the office will not be comprised of a single staff of people. Rather, the staff will be more of a networking cooperation.
