Ghandi's grandson to speak on campus

The Student Peace Alliance will hold a national conference on campus from Oct. 19 to Oct. 21 representative to the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee said Julia Simon Mishel '09. One of the speakers will be Arun Ghandi, Mahatma Ghandi's grandson.

Union Advocate Brian Paternostro '07, Director of Union Affairs Jason Gray '10 and other Union officials reported on their work with Liquid Latex and the administration to find a new date for Latex's "Wear anything but clothes" dance, which was cancelled by the Department of Student Activities Sept. 6. Gray said he will follow up with Director of Student Activities Stephanie Grimes this week "this dance will happen," Gray said.

Gray announced the formation of a Web site to centralize student e-mail communication regarding specific issues, which makes it easier for students to contact their senators. The site can be accessed at www.union.brandeis.edu/outreach or www.itsmystudentunion.com.

The Innocence Club requested and received recognition. Its purpose is to spread word of the issues of wrongful convictions on campus.

Students Taking Action Now: Darfur requested and received a name change to STAND: A Student Anti-Genocide Coalition. This reflects a name change in the national organization of which they are a chapter, which made the adjustment to encompass all genocide.

Candidate for North Quad Senator Kaamila Mohamed '11 and Candidate for Ziv Quad Senator Justin Sulsky '09 attended the meeting to learn more about how the Senate works and introduce themselves to current senators.

President Shreeya Sinha '09 said University President Jehuda Reinharz signed the President Climate Commitment. She also said that the Department of Student Activities has hired two new club coordinators.

The Astronomy Club was granted recognition during last week's senate meeting.

Isn't Arun Ghandi the grandson (not son) of Mahatma Ghandi?
