Abby Blasco '11 has emerged as the main distributor on the volleyball team this season, but in the championship match of last weekend's Midcoast Classic against the University of New England, she showed off her versatility and provided a glimpse into Judges' bright future.

Blasco finished just shy of a triple-double with 35 assists, 11 digs and eight service aces as the volleyball team defeated the Nor'easters 3-0 to cap a dominating 4-0 weekend. The Judges won all four matches 3-0 and improved their record to 15-4 on the season.

"We played well the entire weekend," coach Michelle Kim said. "The passing was very good, we served strong and our players did everything pretty well."

The win sealed the Judges' second tournament victory of the year, the other coming at the Brandeis Invitational Sept. 7 to 8. Blasco, just like in that competition, was the architect of the Judges' attack this weekend.

"She served really well," Kim said. "She worked hard and she gets the job done. I think she's doing a great job."

Captain and libero Violette Ruggiero '09 was also impressed by Blasco's performance.

"[Blasco] was consistent throughout the entire tournament," Ruggiero said. "She distributed the ball well and connected with the hitters."

Brandeis was never seriously threatened by the Nor'easters in the championship match, winning easily 30-23, 30-15, 30-17. Many of Blasco's 35 assists ended in kills by outside hitters Lorraine Wingenbach '09 and Elizabeth Villalino '11, who each finished with 10. Wingenbach added a .455 hitting percentage despite playing with a sore shoulder that kept her out of Friday's matches.

"We dominated from game one to game three," Kim said. "I think we executed well in all aspects of the game."

Prior to that victory, the Judges defeated Keene State College 3-0 earlier in the day. Keene State's best chance came in the first game, but the Judges managed to squeak out a 30-27 victory. Brandeis then won the next two games 30-21 and 30-18 to win the match. Offensively, Wingenbach led the team with 13 kills and a .258 hitting percentage, while Blasco added 28 assists. Defensively, Ruggiero had 16 digs, while Blasco and middle blocker Bridget McAllister '10 added 12 digs apiece.
