This week in pop culture brings us a variety of strange and outlandish tidbits. Celebrities are the aristocracy of our society, and we must learn to accept the surreality of their lives. Let's begin with Brangelina.

Apparently, rumors have been circulating for at least a year that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have been considering buying a man-made island in the shape of Ethiopia. This is, presumably, where the couple would raise their multitude of children and also, according to Emirates Today newspaper, promote green living. "Not true," says a Brad Pitt spokesperson.

Further supporting my point about celebritocracy, actress and Boston native Ellen Pompeo of Grey's Anatomy recently married fiance Chris Ivery at the Justice of the Peace's office in New York City Hall. Pompeo's civil servant witness was none other than Mayor Michael Bloomberg. According to Pompeo's dad (who made remarks on the wedding to People Magazine), "I'm very happy for her. She just didn't want a big thing."

Let us now turn to what must be an affliction floating in the ether of Hollywood that causes the odd celebrity pairings that crop up and dissolve week to week. Zoolander foe Owen Wilson has reportedly been dating an American model who goes by the name "Le Call." That's all. None of our internet sources seem to speculate on this strangeling's real name.

Before closing my window on the lives of our chosen ones, I'd like to provide the reader with a few recent comments made by Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar to Maxim Magazine. Gellar, who has been married to fellow former teen star Freddie Prinze Jr. since 2002, spoke to the magazine about their relationship. The following quotes come from their discussion, and I will provide them here care of entertainment.msn.com without excessive commentary, for I believe they stand on their own:

"As an actor every three months you have a new haircut or hair color, so it's like being with a different person. And a lot of high heels!"

"Freddie likes to say I'm so crazy, it's like being married to five different women."

"You can't be selfish and have a child. Right now I want to live my life and have fun. I want to go sit in my Jacuzzi and drink wine all night."
