The Union Senate elected Senator for the Class of 2010 Jenna Brofsky as executive senator in what Union Vice President Alex Braver '09 called a "close election."
Brofsky reported that the new Village diner will seat between 24 and 28 people. She said the menu would start small with items including salads, burgers, ice cream and omelets.
Senators expressed displeasure that they were not informed by the Student Union executive board that plans for a Pep Rally last Sunday night were scrapped in favor of a stripped-down rally denouncing Senior Vice President of Students and Enrollment Jean Eddy's decision to accept Student Event's proposal.
The Senate made plans to organize a second protest in front of the Bernstein-Marcus administrative buildings Thursday from 2 to 3:30 p.m.
Jacob Bockelman '09, representative to the Board of Trustees, alerted the Senate to the passages in the official University Course Bulletin that describe the roles of Student Events, the Student Activities Fee and the Student Union in light of the current situation.
The Senate chartered the Flight Club, which gives students opportunity to go on short flights and have flying lessons.
The Senate passed Emergency Money Resolution #5-F07 of $150 for Stress-Free Week Activities in the Village and Ziv Quad at the end of the semester.
Union Treasurer Choon Woo Ha '08 reported that he will split up the duties of his executive assistants because of their growing workload. The Senate confirmed Tia Chatterjee '09 as the new executive assistant to the treasurer and Diana Aronin '11 as operations manager.
Transitional Year Program Senator Kamarin Lee reported that he worked with University Spokeswoman Lorna Miles to resolve a problem whereby TYP students, as well as some graduate students and staff, had not been included on the list of those eligible to get tickets for the lecture by former President Bill Clinton despite having registered.
