Before the season started, members of the women's basketball team said they would replace all-time leading scorer Caitlin Malcolm '07 with a balanced offensive effort, instead of forcing guard Jaime Capra '08, a first-team all-University Athletic Association performer last season, to shoulder a heavier offensive load.

So far, that has happened. Plagued by tendonitis in her foot, Capra is averaging just 9.3 points per game while shooting 29.4 percent from the field, but others, particularly guard Jessica Chapin '10 and center Lauren Orlando '09, have picked up the slack, averaging 14.5 and 13.3 points per game, respectively.

"When one person's struggling, everybody else has to step up a little more," Chapin said.

Chapin, the team's sixth man last year, hasn't missed a beat as a starter.

"[Chapin] has the ability to just turn it on at any second," Capra said. "Teams have to be careful not to let her get on a roll."

Orlando scored 27 points in just 23 minutes in an 86-62 win over Emmanuel College last Tuesday, and also led the Judges with 18 points in a 67-62 loss to Kenyon College Nov. 17.

Despite the injury Capra said she doesn't plan on missing any games.

"I have a foot issue going on," Capra said last Thursday. "My legs haven't really been under me, [and] it's probably all in my head now."

Even with the injury, Capra is confident that she will improve her shooting stroke.

"Every shooter that goes into slumps, you come out of slumps-it's happened my whole career, so hopefully I can get it out of the way in the beginning," Capra said last Thursday.
