Senate supports ONE campaign and its goals

Club Sports Coordinator Ben White gave a presentation on his department's work to the Senate and reviewed the terms of last year's club sports compromise. In response to a senator's question, he said it was unlikely that club sports participation could count for Physical Education credit because of difficulties involved with taking attendance.

The Senate chartered the Figure Drawing Club, which will organize sessions with models during which students can gain experience drawing from life.

The Senate confirmed Chiara Bercu '11 and Napoleon Lherisson '11 as assistant treasurers. They will help keep track of Student Union funded club property and work to minimize the processing time of funding requests.

After a presentation by the ONE campaign, the Senate passed a unanimous resolution supporting the ONE campaign and its goals to end global poverty.

The Senate chartered the Bowling Club, which plans to organize weekly visits to a bowling alley.

The Senate changed the name of the Compassion to Realize Alternative Living Today: Eat to Brandeis Vegan Society and chartered the group.

The Senate recognized Urtexts, a journal that plans to accept undergraduate research articles related to Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

The Senate recognized the Squash Club, which plans to organize squash games on the courts in Gosman. The Senate encouraged the club to explore the possibility of receiving funding through the Department of Athletics.

The Senate comfirmed Senator-at-Large Andrew Brooks '09 as the new chair of the Services Committee.

The Senate tabled discussion of a provisional Union budget presented by Union Treasurer Choon Woo Ha '08.

Union Advocate Brian Paternostro '08 announced he was establishing several exploratory committees on campus issues, including one to explore replacing Themed Learning Communities with Community Housing.

Senator for the Class of 2008 Darren Gallant announced that he was resigning as chair of the Club Support Committee because he felt a new chair could be more effective.
