Academic credit for summer study abroad

The Senate passed a resolution expressing its condolences to Northern Illinois University, where a former student killed five students Feb. 14.
The Senate passed a resolution expressing its condolences to the families of the victims of a shooting at Yeshiva Merkaz HaRav in Jerusalem, where a Palestinian killed eight students March 6.
Union Director of Academic Affairs Kimberlee Bachman '08 reported that students will now be able to receive academic credit when studying abroad over the summer, after the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee approved the policy.
Assistant Director of Student Technology Services Anne Livermore updated the Senate on the recently instituted WhoCash payment system for public printing and said that testing was underway for a credit card payment system for WhoCash.
The Senate dechartered Concord Bridge Magazine, the Bratwurst club and the Enigmatology club because they are no longer active.
Members of the dining committee reported that meals cannot roll over from week to week because the meal plan price already factors in unused meals. They also reported that according to Aramark, stealing, along with smaller orders of items and a policy not to advertise products, contributes to higher prices in the C-store, compared to regular supermarkets. They presented a video to demonstrating how understocked the Boulevard is at night.
The Senate recognized the Brandeis Soka Gakkai International Buddhist club, which plans to offer students the opportunity to practice Nichiren Buddhism through chanting sessions.
The Senate chartered the Film Club, which plans to screen films, discuss them from an academic perspective and organize lectures by professors.
The Senate passed a bylaw amendment requiring executive board members to report to the Senate at least once every two weeks.
The Senate tabled a bylaw amendment removing the Senate's obligation to fund the Novus Guide for first-year students each year.
