Students to incur lower cost for lost WhoCards

Laura Cohen '08, director of the Union Office of Student Conduct Advisors, reported on the status of the University disciplinary case involving Mamoon Darwish (TYP) and the charges he has faced from the Waltham Police Department.
Union President Shreeya Sinha '09 and Fanny Familia '09 also reported on the impact the case has had on their work as members of the Firearms Advisory Committee. Sinha and Cohen encouraged Senators and Union members to draft a senate resolution based on Darwish's case.
Director of Union Affairs Jason Gray '10 reported that Vice President of Campus Operations Mark Collins has agreed to lower the price for replacing lost WhoCards from $20 to $10 next fall.
Sinha, Treasurer Choon Woo Ha '08 and Union Advocate Brian Paternostro '08 proposed several constitutional amendments in response to administrative concerns about rollover of Union finances. Several senators and Representative to the Board of Trustees Jacob Bockelmann '09 disagreed with the suggestion to cap the Student Activities Fund. Sinha said she intended to speak with Vice President for Students and Enrollment Jean Eddy about the viability of other possibilities to address the issue.
The Senate dechartered the Italian Club because it is no longer active.
The Senate passed a resolution encouraging the University to create a committee comprised of faculty, staff and students to review its policies on immigration sponsorship.
The Senate tabled a bylaw that would ban the recognition of groups on campus that are duplicates of other recognized organization in terms of their purpose or goals, similar to their policy for chartered groups.
The Senate tabled a bylaw under which newly accredited organizations would receive a provisional accreditation before receiving full recognition or a charter after ten weeks, in which a group would need to demonstrate its ability to fulfill its purpose.
The Senate confirmed Meryl Schulman '10 as non-Senate chair of the Senate Social Justice Committee.
