Student Bill of Rights did not pass in referendum

The Senate passed a resolution calling for a complete switch to cage-free eggs in the Brandeis dining halls. Cage-free eggs are currently available on request on a trial basis at the grill in Usdan Café

Union President Shreeya Sinha '09 and Matt Rogers '08, members of the firearms advisory committee, proposed expanding the Public Safety Committee's scope to address any community concerns about the Department of Public Safety's new enforcement measures.

The Union representatives to the Alumni Association reported that the University is looking for more alumni admissions interviewers who graduated five years ago.

Castle Senator Rebecca Wilkof '10 reported that the Castle Commons will be closed until the fall due to repair work on the ceiling.

Transitional Year Program Senator Kamarin Lee reported that TYP students will be assigned administrative mentors next year in addition to program alumni mentors.

The Senate tabled the dechartering of the Committee on Rape Education, the Brandeis Bahai Association, the Scuba Diving Club, the Turkish Students Association and the Skydiving Club. The Senate dechartered the Badminton Club, the Brandeis Science Scope and the Oenology Club because they are no longer active.

Director of Union Affairs Jason Gray '10 reported that Union members did not collect enough signatures to make the April 30 vote on the Student Bill of Rights an official referendum. He said the vote would instead count as an unofficial opinion poll.

After some discussion, the Senate passed a Senate Money Resolution of $120 to pay for T-shirts for this year's TYP class. TYP Senator Lee had originally proposed an SMR of $240 funding T-shirts for students, program administrators and TYP faculty.

The Senate passed a Senate Money Resolution of $800 toward a benefit concert organized by students in Soc 154a, "Community Structure and Youth Subcultures," planned to raise awareness for an immigrant rights organization called Centro Presente, which will take place at Somerville High School May 3.
