LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Brandeis no longer holds to its values when it is discriminatory

To the Editor:
When a higher education institute like Brandeis discriminates against its own students, it shows that the whole yell about social justice and truth is a huge lie ("Student appeals after being banned from campus," April 8 issue). Being loud and shouting social justice does not mean that one can ensure it. I have heard of several other cases in which Brandeis administration has been evolved in the violation of student process rights and discrimination. I can only imagine the amount of hype and attention this issue would have received if Darwish were an American or for that matter belonged to a specific faith.
I am a Fulbright scholar and a graduate student and was initially going to recommend Brandeis to friends who were willing to apply here. However, I am reluctant now. Students like Darwish come to Brandeis in search of good quality education and most importantly to study in a society that is based upon justice, equality, freedom and peace. I guess they are wrong.
