New Student Union officers were sworn in last Sunday

Outgoing Student Union President Shreeya Sinha '09 swore in former Director of Union Affairs Jason Gray '10 as Student Union president.

Gray swore in former Village Quad Senator Michael Kerns '09 as Union vice president, former Executive Assistant to the Treasurer Tia Chatterjee '09 as Union secretary and former Deputy Treasurer Max Wallach '09 as Union treasurer.

Kerns read aloud a communication from the outgoing Union Judiciary stating that former Senator-at-Large Andrew Brooks '09 had filed an injunction requesting that the UJ postpone swearing in Senator-at-Large-elect Noam Shouster '11 in order to investigate allegations of slander and libel against Brooks.

Gray swore in former Ziv Quad Senator Justin Sulsky '09 as Senator-at-Large, Sung Lo Yoon and Eric Alterman as Senators for the Class of 2009, Paul Balik as Senator for the Class of 2010, Lev Hirschhorn and Alex Melman as Senators for the Class of 2011 and Kamarin Lee as Senator for Racial Minorities.

Julian Olidort '11, Emily Moignard '09, Yuki Hasegawa '09 and Jahfree Duncan '09 were sworn into the Finance Board. Jordan Rothman '09, Julia Sferlazzo '09 and Rachel Graham Kagan '09 were sworn into the UJ.

The Senate confirmed Anum Khan '10 as Union director of academic Affairs, Ryan McElhaney '10 as Union director of community development and former Senator-at-Large Jessica Blumberg '09 as Union director of executive affairs.

The Senators nominated Alterman and Senator-elect for the Class of 2010 Rebecca Wilkof for Executive Senator. The vote will take place in a special session on Tuesday night.

Former executive board members announced that the prize for best club of the year went to the Student Peace Alliance, the prize for most innovative club to Tympanium Euphorium and best new club to Gen-Ed Now.

The Senate passed a resolution committing the Student Union to the exclusive purchase of sweatshop-free clothing, which gives preferential treatment to suppliers employing unionized workers.
