LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Passover break should remain a part of the University's schedule

To the Editor:
Having graduated in 2005, I try to stay in touch with my alma mater, and it disturbs me to see the trend the campus as a whole is taking, trying to dilute the Jewish impact on the school. Granted, Brandeis is not obligated by religious association to give an entire extra week of vacation time to accommodate Passover, but actions like that are part of what Brandeis was founded for-providing an institute of higher learning where Jews can receive a top-tier education without having to sacrifice their religious beliefs.
Closing the school for Passover is a practical choice given that in many years observant students would take four days off classes in addition to the dietary restrictions that would impose time requirements and cost that are prohibitive to the dining hall. Jewish or not, why can't everyone just be happy to have two full weeks of break? That makes Brandeis students of all religions pretty lucky college students!

As much as I am pro-Judaism on campus, I must say, the break kind of sucks for us Goyim. I go home and not one person I know from high school is also on vacation. (Continued…)
