Senate Outreach Committee established

Executive Senator Eric Alterman '09 swore in former Senator-at-Large Andrew Brooks '09 as Ziv Quad Senator, Nathan Goldstein '09 as Senator for Off-Campus Students and Andrew Hogan '11 as North Quad Senator.

The Senate chartered Students Supporting Brandeis Athletics. The group aims to improve attendance at athletic events.

The Senate voted to change a bylaw to dissolve the University Spirit Committee and establish a Senate Outreach Committee instead. Alterman, sponsor of the change, said the Union should be focused on informing students about Union activities.

Brooks reported that Union President Jason Gray '10 appointed him to serve as student representative on the search committee for a new chief information officer to be a successor to Perry Hanson.

Senator for the Class of 2011 Alex Melman reported that Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Peter French and Chief Investment Officer and Vice President for Investment Management Deborah Kuenstner seemed receptive to his proposal for a committee on endowment ethics and responsibility.

In the Senate meeting on Sunday, Sept. 28, Union President Jason Gray '10 swore in new senators Supreetha Gubbala '12, Nipun Marwaha '12 and Akash J. Valadiadalia '12, sophomore senators Nathan J. Robinson of Castle Quad and Philips Loh of Rosenthal Quad. Terrence Johnson (TYP), the Senator for the Transitional Year Program, was also sworn in.

A bylaw amendment was passed that changed the name of the Office of Student Conduct Advisors to Office for Student Rights and Advocacy.

Camille Manganello '10 was elected by the Senate as non-Senate chair of the Diversity Club Committee.

Former Senator for the Class of 2010 Jenna Brofsky met with the Senate to discuss the Campus Operations Working Group.

Anum Khan '10, the director of academic affairs, met with the Union Senate to discuss how the Student Union needs to adjust in order to better incorporate student opinion.
