Dear Eleanor,
I've heard people talking about registering for spring semester classes. Isn't it a little early to be worried about classes for next semester?
Thanks,
Concerned Lad About Scholarly Schedule
Dear C.L.A.S.S.,
Even though it is only October and next semester seems really far away, it is important to start thinking about what classes you want to take in the spring. Registration this year begins Oct. 27 and will run through Nov. 5. You can access the spring 2009 course listings on the Registrar's Web site at www.brandeis.edu/registrar, where tentative course instructors and times are already listed. Pre-registration in October gives you plenty of time to make adjustments to your schedule by talking to professors, advisers and your Roosevelt Fellows. You don't have to panic, but it is a really good idea to start preparing now for spring.
To help you understand the process a little better, here are some guidelines on how to register for classes through Sage. You will receive an e-mail with registration dates and times. It is important to note that you cannot sign up for all your classes at once. Instead, you register according to your enrollment period, which you can check on Sage by clicking on the "view enrollment appointment" tab. It is therefore essential to sign up for your most important class first, especially if the class is capped at a certain number of students. You can check the class capacity on the course listing detail on Sage or on the Registrar's Web page.
I recommend you start looking at the course listings for next semester as soon as you can so that you have an idea of what to take. All departments offer some great classes, and it can often be a bit overwhelming to decide on just four or five. Even if you only plan on taking four, keep in mind that you can select five courses now and review them in the spring before deciding which four to keep.
Additionally, the Roosevelt Fellows will be hosting a "Roosevelt Recommends" program to help you decide what classes to choose on Sunday, Oct. 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the first-year quad lounges. The Fellows and the first-year advisers will be there to offer advice on classes that they recommend and to discuss the right schedule for you. Please stop by with any questions regarding class selection and the registration process.
Best Wishes,
Eleanor
