In just the first three swim meets of her collegiate career, women's swimming and diving team member Angela Chui '12 has already broken school records in individual events four times.

Most recently, Chui broke her own record in the 100-yard backstroke event in a meet against Keene State College last Saturday.

"I was … really surprised to have … broken the [100-yard backstroke] record that many times," Chui said. "But … [last Saturday] I knew I was up against someone really good, so I was really … determined that I wanted to beat her. I wasn't like aiming to break another record, but it was really surprising for me as well."

Chui initially broke the 100-yard backstroke record leading off the 400-yard medley relay in the Michael Zarrilli Invitational Oct. 18. She then broke her own record at last Wednesday's meet against Boston College before breaking it once again last Saturday with a time of 1 minute, 0.84 seconds.

She also broke the school's 200-yard backstroke record, set by Sharon Makowsky '06 in 2006, against Boston College. Chui's time of 2:09.90 was less than a second slower than the NCAA Division III Championship B standard. Chui said meeting the NCAA standard is her goal for the season.

"That's like my main goal … to make a B or an A cut," Chui said.

Chui said she would like to post her best times this year but emphasized team-oriented goals as well.

"I'd really like to swim … all my best times, but I'd really like for our team wins to be … more than last year and try to see if we can beat the teams that we lost to last year," she said.
