In just the second meet since the University decided to close Linsey pool, a total of five members on the men's and women's swimming and diving teams won more than one individual event as both squads defeated Babson College last Thursday.
The women's team won 119-89 and climbed to 3-1 for the season, while the men's team picked up its second straight victory with a 125-96 win and improved to 2-2 on the season.
"It's been an up-and-down week with all the pool problems … and I just felt like we definitely stepped it up [at last Thursday's meet]," James Liu '10 said. "Even though we're training off campus, and … it's been hard on us, like mentally and physically … I thought the team [still] did really well."
The Linsey Pool closed indefinitely Oct. 28, and the swimming and diving teams have been practicing at three other local colleges: Bentley College, Regis College and Wellesley College.
Angela Chui '12 led the way for the women's team, winning two individual events and breaking three school records. Chui also qualified for the NCAA Division III championships by meeting the B Qualifying Standard time in the 200-yard backstroke event, which she swam in a time of 2 minutes, 8.23 seconds.
"I told [coach James Zotz] I wanted to try and go for [the qualifying time] … at that meet," Chui said. "I felt really good during warm-ups, so I had my mind pretty much set."
Chui also won the 500-yard freestyle race and lowered her previous school records in the 50- and 100-yard legs of the 400-yard medley relay with times of 29.29 seconds and 1:00.10, respectively.
"Pretty much at … all the races, I try to [swim] my best," Chui said. "I don't hold back… If I can break the record, I'm happy and excited, but if I don't, as long as I try my best… in all my races, I'm happy."
Hollis Viray '10, Dana Simms '11 and Julia Derk '12 each won two individual events. Simms achieved personal-best times in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events, while Derk took both the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events and Viray posted season-best times in both the 200-yard individual medley and the 200-yard breaststroke.
The women's team won 119-89 and climbed to 3-1 for the season, while the men's team picked up its second straight victory with a 125-96 win and improved to 2-2 on the season.
